Update!

Hey Howdy Hey everyone!

I haven't done an update in forever so why not now!  I thought I would get to update this a lot more than I do but I'm always pretty busy with my roommates and work etc.  that I seem to never get anytime/remember to update this.  I'm pretty sure since I last update this we finally got our two last roommates, Maggie from Columbia and Sara who is from Illinois.

ToT Princesses
So first off loving my roommates.  They are some of the greatest people ever and we get along very well.  We all have the same sense of humor and aspirations in life so its easy to get along and live with them.  The other week after one of our housing events (which I'll talk about later) we were talking about riding Tower of Terror and how much we love it.  So while talking about this we all decide, "hey why don't we just go to Hollywood Studios and just ride Tower of Terror before the park shuts!?"  And that's what we did.  We went with a hour and a half till the park shut and headed "directly to the Twilight Zone"  (haha ToT humor right there).  We rode ToT 4 times and each time we went on it, it got better and better!  The last time we rode for the night will be one to remember because one of the workers right before we dropped had us sitting there in complete darkness and silence.  We were freaking out cause we know what happens on this ride and that wasn't supposed to happen for that long.  All of a sudden though the Cast member over an intercom said, "hope you have a nice fall muwhaha!"  It was amazing!

I'm starting to count how many times I've been on ToT and I've been on it 16 times already and it is still magical and amazing each time I ride it!

And my Mum actually gave me this idea to count how many times I go to the parks as a guest, so here is the counter for that:
Magic Kingdom: 6
Hollywood Studios: 8
Epcot: 1
Typhoon Lagoon: 2
Animal Kingdom: 1
Blizzard Beach: 1

Work
Blizzard Beach!  I LOVE IT!  I'd have to say its a lot less stressful than I thought it would be.  I like my coordinators and other coworkers because they are all so helpful and if I have any questions they can answer them right away for me!  Right now its pretty slow at the water parks because of it being off season but there is still a decent amount of guests coming to the park.  I'm a deep water guard at Blizzard but so far have only been on one deep rotation.

View of Summit Plummit from T-Bar
This past week at work we had Tier 3 audits, which means we had some people come into BB to look at what the slide ops and lifeguards were doing when they worked:  making sure they're enforcing the rules, safety etc.  I myself didn't see the auditors auditing me but I saw them walking around a lot.  On Thursday I did my first deep water rotation when the auditors came and it went amazing!  I did so well on my deep rotation and at T-bar (which is a zip line into 8 feet of water and a water slide all for one guard) that I was LIFEGUARD OF THE DAY!!!  But overall our coordinators said we did amazing with the audits and they even gave us Mickey ice cream bars...yum!

Oh here some other news about work...Typhoon Lagoon which is the other water park at Disney is closing in November for matience etc.  so all College Program guards at Typhoon and BB are getting relocated to other resorts as lifeguards or other role all together.  I'm still debating that if they give me a choice to switch roles whether I'll do it because I like lifeguarding but I also want to try other roles out.

Today I had my first 2 hour in-service.  In-service  is basically lifeguards practice.  We had to do six in-services a month and the 2 hour one counts as three of them.  I did one in-service prior to the 2 hour today so I had 4 and then it was my letter group to do regular in-service so I did that also.  So I only have to do one more in-service for the month!!!  wooo hooo

Housing Events
The housing events at Disney are wicked fun lets say that.  The first one I went to, I went with my roommates LaNae, Katie, and Sara.  The theme of the event was change your fate, which if your Disney obsessed means-Brave themed.   They had music, obstacle course, food and drinks there so it was a great afternoon.  Also as a treat they had some of the characters there to take pictures with us.  Merida from Brave was there and also Goofy dressed in a kilt.  Sadly I wasn't able to get a picture with Merida but I did get one with Goofy!  As the housing event came to a close, we got in line for more free food to bring back to the apartment and we sure did get a lot.  Between the 4 of us we were able to grab 12 full pizzas!

The next housing event at Chatham that was only a couple of days ago was Oktoberfest.  I know a little weird that it wasn't in October but thats okay.  This had almost the same things at this housing event expect no obstacle courses but there were more characters.  Mickey in a German get up was there, Snow White and her Prince, Dopey, Daisey, and Goofy.  The best part of the night was the German food!  It was so good and I just so happen was given a lot.  I don't know why but I guess they looked at me and said this girl can eat!  I also got to try a German soda which is Coke and Orange Fanta together and it was pretty good.

Coming up this next week is the next housing event and its going to be casino themed!

Where Dreams Come True

The opportunity I've been looking forward to since...well I can't remember has finally come and I'm living my dream!  On August 18th I started the journey for Florida.  My mum and I got on an auto-train in  to Virginia and spent the night on the train on the way to Sanford Florida.  It was an overnight train ride which was a first so I was really excited I got to go on the train and sleep on the train, which was interesting.  Once we arrived in Sanford Florida, which is just outside of Orlando, we made our way to our hotel which was right across from Vista Way where I'd be checking in the next morning.  We got to our hotel which was really nice and had a pool, so of course since I was in Florida, I got into my bathing suit and found my to the pool area so I could enjoy the lovely Florida weather.  After some swimming, we got in the car and headed to the outlets right where I'll be living and let me tell you...I will be going there A LOT!!!  Later that night I met up with my suitmates at Downtown Disney at the Earl of Sandwich.  I've never been there before so it was a great treat!

My suitmates are really nice and they are from all over the U.S. which is awesome.  My roommates name is  Hannah and is from California and is doing quick-service food and beverage at Magic Kingdom.  My other suitmates are from Alabama, Texas, New York, and another girl from Massachusetts.  It seems like we are all going to get along so I'm wicked excited.

AUGUST 20--CHECK IN DAY!
Lets just say this was probably the longest day that I've had in a LONG time.  We got inline around 5:45 am for check in which was supposed to start at 9 am...We got in line to sign housing agreements, car decals,  housing assignments, etc.  We got our second choice for housing which was a 4 bedroom apartment in Chatham Square, which is a really nice apartment complex.

After we found out our housing we waited a little while to get on a bus to go to casting and lets just say this building was filled with Disney.  Every inch had something, whether it was about Disney's history or about the college program so it was really interesting getting to read all of the information while I was waiting in lines for all of the different check points.  When we first got in line they told us that we would be finding out what our work location was going to be so I got really excited...little did I know they didn't tell lifeguards until they past their swimming test later that night... :(

So...what seemed like hours in casting I headed back to Vista Way to head over to my apartment to start moving in.  The apartment is great and is huge.  There is a ton of space in our apartment that we don't even know what to do with all of it yet.  Around 6 I had my swim test at Mickey's Retreat where cast members can go to hangout, etc.  I had to swim 200 yards, tread water for 2 minutes with my hands out of the water, and retrieve a 10 lbs brick from the bottom of a 8 foot deep pool.  That night after we moved in we had our first roommate adventure to Walmart to pick up food and other items.  It took forever but I pretty much got everything that I needed.

AUGUST 21
Today all we had to do was go to a housing meeting which was actually really fun.  We got to go to the Commons apartment complex which is where most of the international college program students live.  Its also another really nice place that people get to live.  We walked into the meeting and they had fog machines, strobe lights, and Disney music remixes which made all of us really excited.  One thing I'd have to say about this meeting is that they really tried to make the meeting as fun as possible because it could have been really boring with all the do's and don'ts of living in Disney housing.

AUGUST 22--FIRST DAY OFF
All my roommates had the day of so we headed to Universal Studios.  We hit up Island of Adventure first and headed straight for Harry Potter World...all I can say is wow.  I've been there before, but the whole section is just amazing! After we finished with Harry Potter which skipped from land to land and then once we were done in Island of Adventure we left and went to Universal Studios.  The first ride that we went on was the newly opened Despicable Me ride which was wicked cute.  They designed it so it would be a continuation of the movie.

AUGUST 23--TRADITIONS

Had to be at the bus at 6:45 am to head to Disney University where we would learn about the Traditions of Disney and how we can start creating magic for all the guests that we are going to interact with soon.  The first part of the day was pretty boring that everyone was falling asleep but then the quickly woke us up when they told us that we'd be getting to go into Magic Kingdom behind the scenes!!!  It was amazing.  I got to go into the utiltadoors and where a head piece which made me feel official!!!  After our mini tour we headed back to our classroom and learned about the 4 keys of Disney.  We then got a special visit from the man or should I say mouse himself, Mickey Mouse!  Mickey came in to welcome us to Walt Disney company.  We also answered trivia when he was there and I was the first one to get one right so I got a mini mouse toy from him.  He also gave me a hug and kiss and I almost cried because I was sooo happy!  At the end of the Traditions they brought in our name tags and I couldn't believe it seeing my name on a Disney name tag.  It was the coolest feeling ever!

Once we finished at Traditions we headed to Hollywood Studios and went on every ride.  I love that park--Tower of Terror, Rock in Rollercoaster, Star Tours, etc.  The last thing we did was Fantasmic....I love that show it has Mickey and villains all in one!  What could be better!

AUGUST 24--LIFEGUARD TRAINING
Yup thats pretty much it as the title say...we had day on of 3 today.  9 hours of lifeguard training and boy am I tired!

Well I hope you all enjoyed this update and I hope you come back soon to read future updates on what I'm doing here in Florida at Walt Disney World!!!

Have a Magical Day everyone!!!

So...

So this 60 day Disney thing that I attempted pretty much failed because I was super busy with work and didn't get anytime to actually do this.  I basically fell asleep after I ate dinner every night after work because I was exhausted.  I'm sure this will probably happen when I'm actually at my program where I won't get much time to update my blog but I promise I'll try to update it as much as possible.

TWO weeks from today I'll already be moved into my apartment in Florida with my 5 other roommates.  I'm really excited/nervous to move down there and be so far away from everyone I know but hey its an adventure!  So most people at this time would have at least somethings packed for leaving (especially since I'm leaving to spend sometime in PA before I leave) but I do not.  I haven't packed a single thing yet...oops!  Maybe when I actually pack I'll take some pictures so you can all see how much I brought with me! :)

Day 19

Favorite Classic Disney Movie
I think one of my favorite classic Disney movies would have to be The Aristocats. The music is so good and also the characters are really lovable!

Saturday, July 7, 2012

Day 18

The First Movie You Saw

This is a really hard one to think of because I can only remember the first movie that I saw in theaters which was The Lion King.

I have a feeling that my first Disney Movie was probably either Mary Poppins or Snow White but truthfully those are complete guesses.

Day 17

Favorite Kiss

Even though this kiss is between two robots it's still my favorite!  Eva touches her head against Wall-E's when he has no power left and sparks are created between the two of them that power Wall-E back up!  How romantic!

Day 16

Favorite Disney Singing Voice

I would have to say my two favorite singing voices are the voice of Pocahontas and Rapunzel.  Both of the voices are lovely to listen to.

Day 15

Least Favorite Song

Ugh once you hear it once...It'll be stuck in your head the rest of the day and not in a good way!

Day 14

Favorite Villain Song
Once again, I couldn't decide on a favorite villains song because they are all pretty epic!

"Hells Fire"

"Be Prepared"

"Savages"

"The World's Greatest Criminal Mind"

Day 13

Favorite Love Song

I can't decide what song is my favorite because there are way too many songs that I like

"I Won't Say I'm in Love"

"If I Never Knew You"

"I See the Light"

Day 12

Favorite Song

"I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Mulan is one of my favorite movies and this song no matter where I am I will belt it out as loud as I possibly can.

Day 11

Favorite Original Character

Day 10

Favorite Villain

Maleficent

No surprise here that Maleficent is my favorite.  I think she is just the coolest/baddest villain that Disney has created!

Day 9

Favorite Animal Sidekick
Porkchop

I don't think I'm the only one that wishes Doug would come back on tv.  This show was epic and the stage show at WDW was also great when I saw it!

Day 8

Favorite Non-Animal Sidekick
Russel

Love Russel from Up.  He is hilarious and I fell in love with him while watching the movie!

Day 7

Your Favorite Disney Animal
Funniest characters to meet in the park when you go to Walt Disney World and I assume Disneyland but I've never been there.  Also I LOVED Chip n' Dale Rangers it was one of my favorite tv shows that they played on the Disney Channel!

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Day 6

Your Favorite Hero
Hercules

Love, love, love this movie!  I like the muscles, the heart, and the brains (oh wait,  Hercules doesn't have that much brains lol)!  But, I do love that he fights all of the villians that Hades pits against him and at the end of the film he saves Meg but sacrificing his own life.

Monday, June 25, 2012

Day 5

Your Favorite Who Has The Best Hair
I have two choices for this.  First male character:

Prince Naveen

Even though he spends most of the movie as a frog, I think his hair is really, really nice for a male.

Now Female:
Jasmine
Her hair just looks so pretty and I wish I could have it that long and not frizzy lol

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Day 4

Favorite Prince
Prince Phillip

His journey to help save Princess Aurora is epic!  He has to defeat Malificent who is my favorite villain but I'll get to that later.  But any who on his way to slaying Malificent he has to go through an immense amount of pricker bushes that many people would just give up when they see it. Malificent wasn't an easy person to defeat but he was able to do it and then still have time to kiss Princess Aurora to awake her from her sleep.

Day 3

Your Favorite Heroine
MULAN
Simple:  Mulan is a badass.  I looked up other peoples reviews on what makes Mulan the ultimate heroine and these are a couple that I found on the website www.ultimatedisney.com.  One person said about Mulan:

The number one heroine was a very easy choice for me. It's Mulan. She wasn't a passive princess, she wasn't focused on a man, or love, or anything shallow like that. Any of the male heroes would be honored to fight by Mulan's side, and that's what sets her apart from every other Disney heroine, and that's why she deserves to top the list.

- Raydawggie

Along with this review of the character Mulan they give a comprehensive list of the top 20 Disney Heroines.  I agree with the list pretty much and I liked the choices that the website made.

SIGNED UP

I signed up for my class today that I'm going to take down at Disney World.  The class that I decided to take  is Exploring Disney Heritage at the Walt Disney World Resort!  I'm so excited for this class because I get to learn more about Disney, which is perfect for me!  The course syllabus is online and I'm wicked excited for each class because they won't be dull at all and I won't be dreading going to class.  On the second day of class we get to go to Disney Hollywood Studios for a scavenger hunt...HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!

I was going to post the class syllabus for you all to check out what I'm going to be doing every week in class but it seems that I can't do that in blogger....hurumpf!

My class will be on Wednesdays from 4-6pm at Chatham Square Classroom 4.  Hopefully I end up living in Chatham Square so my apartment will be close!

Day 2

Day: 2 of the 60 Day Disney Challenge is up and the category is:

YOUR FAVORITE PRINCESS

This one is a little difficult because I really like Pocahontas, but a lot of people don't consider her a princess even though she technically is a "royalty" in her Native American tribe.  But after not that much thought after considering all the princesses you see in the parades etc.  I chose.....

BELLE
Belle is able to see the beauty in the beast and fall in love with him!  How romantic!!!

My Bucket List for DCP

 1. Ride all the rides in all of the parks.  There are some that I have never done before because of the time restrictions and the line being too long.  So I defiently want to fix this situation that is in my life

2. Visit both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. I've never been to Blizzard Beach so I'm really excited to go ride all the amazing water slides etc. there and also possibly work there.  I've been to Typhoon Lagoon twice before-once for my 8th  birthday with my family and the second time with the marching band when I was in 8th grade (so its been a while since I last went).

3. Take any and all tours that I can.  Disney offers a lot of "behind-the-scenes" tours around the parks and resorts that I'm really interesting in being a part of.  One of the tours that I've heard of is of The Haunted Mansion ride, which is amazing because Walt Disney himself worked on the effects that they still use in this ride today!

4. Go to Beaches'n'Cream with other people and order "The Kitchen Sink"!  I'm just going to add a video along with this so you can see what "The Kitchen Sink" is.  It is going to be epic if I do this by myself and I will probably never have to eat the rests of my DCP experience!

5. Eat at as many Disney restaurants as I can afford.  Afford is the key word because even with the discounts I get a lot of the Disney restaurants are very pricey.

6. Visit all the Disney Resorts (And visit them all again around the Holidays).  Each of the hotels have amazing Holiday displays and the one I'm personally excited to see is the Animal Kingdom Resort.  I've seen what it looks like sort of from The Travel Channel doing Holiday specials on the Disney Parks and it looks absolutely amazing!

7. Attend the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, Spirit of Aloha, and Mickey's Backyard Barbecue.   I've heard nothing but good reviews about all of these dinner shows.  The Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is probably the one I'm most looking forward to because its supposed to be a great time!

8. Be a part of a Character Dining experience. :)  Never got to do one of these as a child so I'm gonna do it now!

9. "Drink" around the world.

10. Eat around the world. Eat at at least one stand/restaurant in each World Showcase.

11. Get pictures taken with all of my favorite characters.  Buzz, Woody, Malificent, Chip N' Dale, Goofy, Russel, Beast, Esmeralda, etc.

12. Eat the Thanksgiving meal sandwich at Earl of Sandwich.

13. Go to Disney Quest and Characters in Flight at Downtown Disney.

14. Ride Tower of Terror 5x in a row.

15.  Go to the Not-So Scary-Mickey's Halloween Party and the Holiday Party and every other special celebration that Disney puts on.

16. TRY A DOLE WHIP. Finally, I'm going to try a Dole Whip.

17.  Eat a Turkey Leg.

18.  Make Someones day Magical!

19.  Enjoy every second that I am down there

20.  See each parks fireworks show with the people I care about the most!

That's all of the things that I can think of at the moment, but I'm going to update it as soon as I think of other things!

Requirements for Lifeguarding

My role that I've been given for my DCP is lifeguard.  I'm already a lifeguard, but I am a Red Cross certified lifeguard which is basically useless down at Disney.  When I'm down at Disney I will have to be re-certified under Ellis Association?  (I think that's the name of it).  So the basic test for the lifeguarding that I will complete the first day is:

Prepare for a Swim Test (Lifeguards only)Lifeguard Cast Members are strongly encouraged to complete a practice swim test prior to arrival. The swim test consists of:
  • Swim 200 yards (183 meters) freestyle or breaststroke
  • Retrieve a 10-lb (4.5 kg) brick from the deepest section of the pool (minimum 8 feet / 2.4 meters)
  • Tread water with hands out of the water for two minutes
Your official training and certification will be handled in Florida.

I'm not worried about the test at all because of being a lifeguard before I've done all of this and also since I was on a swim team for years this is rather easy for me.  The only thing I'm a little nervous about is that the types of water saves are different from Ellis to Red Cross.  Hopefully I pass all of my different tests which are doing different saves and a written test.  As of know I'm not sure if anything else is required but I will update you with what I have to do with it!

DAY 1

DAY 1 of 30 Day Disney Challenge

FAVORITE CHARACTER

This should come to no surprise to anyone that knows me who my favorite character is going to be...I bet you can guess it without having to look at the picture...

BUZZ LIGHTYEAR

He is hilarious and also a Space Ranger...what's better than that!  It's my goal when I go down for my program to actually meet Buzz Lightyear and get his signature!

60 Day Disney Challenge

So, I'm looking for things to do to pass the time until I head to Walt Disney World for my DCP and this challenge is one thing that I found! I hope you enjoy this as much as I will :)

The Survey

As part of the Disney College Program you live with 3 plus people in apartments located on the Disney World property.  The different housing options are Patterson, Chatham, and Vista Way.  Being me I don't really care all that much where I live but I'd prefer to live in Chatham but wouldn't protest to the others either.  So, I'm on a bunch of the Facebook get to know you pages and one of the things many people do is put together a survey so other people on the pages can view it and see if they would like to room or be suit mates together.  For me I didn't need the roommate part because Disney placed me with a roommate, but I am still on the search for suit mates that are arriving the same day as me.  It may end up if I don't find people that I'll just wait for Disney to place me again which I really don't care.  The only thing that I want out of people I live with are that they want to hangout, go to the parks, and have a good time when we are together.  I want to like living with these people that I'm going to live with.

Thinking...

I've been thinking about my upcoming College Program experience, as some of my fellow DCPers are arriving in Disney and beginning to work, and it is making me extremely excited to go down there.

A couple of months ago I received a postcard at home but did not post a picture if it because I was in NJ at school and not back in MA. Seeking that postcard makes me act like a little kid holding it and jumping up and down.

I can't wait to be in the sun soaking up the rays at work, learning from one of the greatest companies in the world and also having probably the best 6 months of my life down in Orlando Florida.

I'll be posting later all my details for those who care about where I'm going to be living so you can send me letters etc because since I'll be away from anyone I know it would be nice to get letters from people I know. I think it's going to be hard being so far away from home but I think being in Disney a place I'm so familiar with will make it a heck of a lot easier. Also unlike at college, other people will be just as far or further away from home as I am as no one will be a commuter, unlike Rider where I graduated from.

Well here's to you for reading this latest update and I hope you continue reading them!

I'm Going to Disney World!

This year has been a very exciting year for me, with graduating from college this May and starting my next experience life. But I found out about this great program that I decided I really wanted to do: The Disney College Program!

The Disney College Program or DCP is an experience where college students can live, work, and learn at either Disney World or Disneyland. This is perfect for me since I love everything about Disney. If you know me you know I love Disney and I'm basically a Disney nerd...so what a good program for me since I can be a nerd for 6 months.

I went through a whole application process and found out I got picked to be apart of the program. I'd be working as a lifeguard in one of the resorts or at a water park. I can't believe that I doing this program and I'm soooo excited.

I leave August 20th for my program , but in the mean time I'll give updates etc about what's going on. And when I'm down in Florida I'll try and update as much as I can do about what I am doing.
